What do you get with ChatGPT Plus?
ChatGPT Plus costs $20 a month. OpenAI’s pricing page lists access to its GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6.1 Sol models, plus several GPT-5.6 models. It also lists expanded messages and uploads, expanded deep research and memory, projects, scheduled tasks and custom GPTs. Plus includes Codex, OpenAI’s coding agent, with more usage than the Free and Go plans. Its reasoning models get a 256K-token context window, about 320 pages of text according to OpenAI.
OpenAI has said Plus will stay ad-free while it tests ads on the Free and Go tiers in the US. Its help centre says the API is billed separately and that Plus can only be paid by credit card.
Pros: the widest range of OpenAI models and tools; Codex included; no ads. Cons: OpenAI does not publish exact message limits; no annual discount listed; the top model, GPT-5.6 Sol Pro, and the always-on “Dot” agent are Pro-only.
What do you get with Claude Pro?
Claude Pro costs $20 a month, or $17 a month if you pay $200 for a year. It adds Anthropic’s most capable Opus models to the Sonnet and Haiku models on the free plan. It also includes Claude Code for programming, Research, projects, memory, Claude in Chrome and Claude for Microsoft 365. Anthropic’s pricing page says Pro gives at least five times the free plan’s usage per five-hour session.
Usage resets on two clocks: a five-hour session limit and a weekly limit across all models. Anthropic says the number of messages you can send depends on message length, file size, conversation length and the model you use. If you run out, you can buy usage credits.
Pros: cheapest of the three if you pay annually; Claude Code included; strong set of work tools. Cons: five-hour and weekly limits can interrupt long sessions; image and video generation are not listed on the pricing page; no family sharing.
What do you get with Google AI Pro?
Google AI Pro costs $19.99 a month or $199.99 a year. It gives access to Gemini 4 Argon with about four times the usage of the free tier. Gemini models get a 1-million-token context window, the largest listed by any of the three. Google also puts Gemini inside Gmail, Docs and Vids, and includes 1,000 Google Flow credits for AI video, plus a limited trial of its Veo 3.1 Lite video model.
The extras are what set it apart. The plan includes 5 TB of Google storage, YouTube Premium Lite and Google Home Premium Standard, and you can share it with up to five other people. Google One also says students can get Google AI Pro free for a year.
Pros: the most extras for the price; the largest context window; family sharing; deep Google Workspace integration. Cons: you must be 18 or older; the value depends on using Google’s apps; video generation is only a limited trial.
Are there cheaper or more powerful plans?
Each company sells plans below and above the $20 tier, as of 7 November 2026:
- Budget: ChatGPT Go costs $8 a month in the US and may include ads. Google AI Plus costs $4.99 a month and includes 400 GB of storage and Gemini in Gmail. Claude lists no plan between Free and Pro.
- Power users: ChatGPT Pro comes in three tiers at $100, $200 and $500 a month. OpenAI product leader Sottiaux said the $100 tier gives five times the Plus allowance and the $200 tier ten times, WinBuzzer reported. Claude Max costs $100 a month for five times Pro usage, and Claude Ultra costs $200 for ten times Pro’s weekly usage. Google AI Ultra starts at $99.99 a month, with a $199.99 tier offering higher limits.
If you mainly want an AI agent to do tasks for you, note that agents are still early. Our report on Uber’s AI agent ride bookings shows how little real-world use some agent features get so far.
Which AI subscription should you choose?
- Choose ChatGPT Plus if you want the broadest set of tools in one app, including image creation, deep research and Codex, and you don’t want ads.
- Choose Claude Pro if you write or code for long stretches, want Claude Code, or prefer to save by paying annually.
- Choose Google AI Pro if you already pay for Google storage or YouTube, work in Gmail and Docs, or want to share one plan with your family.
Try each assistant’s free plan first with your own tasks. Check each company’s cancellation terms before you subscribe. OpenAI’s help centre, for example, says Plus fees are generally non-refundable and that you should cancel at least 24 hours before your billing date to avoid the next charge.
